Textile traceability: what CSRD changes for kidswear brands

The CSRD directive, ESPR regulation and Digital Product Passport (DPP) transform the brand-manufacturer relationship. Here are the data your supplier must now provide — and what LOI Confection already delivers.

    2026-2027 regulatory context

    Three European texts interlock:

    • CSRD (Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive) — mandatory non-financial reporting for large enterprises, then listed SMEs by 2028
    • ESPR (Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation) — introduces the Digital Product Passport (DPP) for textiles from 2027
    • Green Claims Directive — bans unsubstantiated environmental claims

Concrete result: every textile reference must be documented "from field to store".

The 5 blocks of data to collect

For the textile DPP, you will need to publish:

    1. Fibre composition & origin — cotton variety, growing country, mill, certification
    2. Transformation steps — weaving/knitting, dyeing, sewing, with countries and sites
    3. Environmental impacts — water, energy, CO₂ per unit produced
    4. Social conditions — audit certifications (BSCI, WRAP, Sedex) of manufacturing sites
    5. End of life — recyclability, recycled content rate, care guide to extend use

A manufacturer unable to provide these 5 blocks puts you in regulatory default.

GOTS: natural foundation for the DPP

A GOTS-certified order already documents the 5 blocks by construction:

    • Upstream certification number (mill)
    • Downstream certification number (manufacturer)
    • Transaction Certificate for each shipment
    • Annual social audits integrated

That is why CSRD accelerates GOTS adoption among kidswear brands: it is the least expensive foundation for DPP preparation.

    Our traceability process

At LOI Confection, every order generates:

    • A fibre traceability sheet: origin mill, batch number, GOTS/OCS/OEKO-TEX certification
    • A process sheet: dates, sites, operators per step (cutting, sewing, dyeing, control)
    • A batch CSR report: water usage, solar energy ratio, team (74% women)
    • The Ecocert Transaction Certificates for organic batches

These documents are delivered in PDF + spreadsheet format, ready to feed your CSRD reporting tool.

    Accepted reporting formats

    We deliver in standard formats:

    Questions fréquentes

Does CSRD apply if my brand has fewer than 250 employees?+
Directly no, but indirectly yes: as soon as you sell to a CSRD-subject retailer or marketplace, they will ask for upstream ESG data. Without supplier traceability, you are excluded from those distribution channels.
What is the Digital Product Passport in concrete terms?+
A QR code (or NFC chip) on each product, pointing to a public page documenting its composition, manufacturing stages and impacts. Mandatory for textiles by 2027 under the ESPR regulation.
How much does this traceability cost?+
For a GOTS order, the extra cost is already included in the certification (€0 additional). For a non-organic order, expect +2-4% to cover the extra documentation.
